We’ll drive through one of the most important agricultural areas on the north side of the country, the Caribbean slopes, to arrive at Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. This ecosystem is known for its bird watching. Caño Negro is also home to many wild animals, including sloths, three types of monkeys, caimans, lizards, bats and a variety of flora native to these wetlands.
Travel from the hotel to Caño Negro lasts about 1 hour and 45 minutes. This rustic village is near the border with Nicaragua. Here we begin our boat tour that goes slowly upstream, stopping along the way to observe the animals. Around noon we will stop at a nice local restaurant for a typical Costa Rican lunch before we start our return trip to Bijagua.
